The Champions League finalist is in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup, not a big surprise in itself. Inter aren't yet at their best in the new FIFA tournament, thus seamlessly following on from the Champions League final. That the Black and Blues are considered clear favorites by the bookmakers doesn't surprise anyone, given their individual talent. However, the Brazilian clubs are performing so well at the Club World Cup. Inter started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Monterrey. A little later, they almost suffered a real embarrassment against the Urawa Red Diamonds, but Inter just managed to turn things around. Lautaro Martinez equalized in the 78th minute, and Valentin Carboni scored the winner in the second minute of stoppage time. In their final game they beat 2-0 River Plate. Fluminense start with a 0-0 draw against Dortmund and a win here would have been thoroughly deserved. A few days later, the team showed a completely different, significantly more attacking face in a 4-2 win against Ulsan. Anyone who thought things would continue in this vein was wrong, the 0-0 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns saw the old approach return. |
